Air Replacement Filters and Misconceptions

After reaching home through the populated city with polluted air, you deserve to feel clean at least in your home. But, you no longer experience it. According to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Indoor air pollutants rank among the top five environmental health risks. The main cause for this is an Air-tight construction that contributes to poor air quality as it stops fresh from entering the home.

There are two ways to improve air quality:
·         Provide ventilation to allow fresh air pass through the home.
·         To install Air Replacement filter that removes indoor pollutants.
So, to make your home healthier by allowing clean air into it, you should install Air Replacement Filters. These filters also help in removing allergy-provoking dust, pollen, smoke, pet dander and mold spores from the indoor air.
To help in analyzing the efficiency of the Air Replacement filters, the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE)  provided a rating from 1 (lowest) to 20 (highest). There are also three factors that are needed to be considered before choosing a filter.

·         The ability to remove particles from the filter
·         The ability to resist airflow by the filter
·         Expected operating life of the filter
Basically, there are four types of air filters.
Flat-panelled fiberglass air filters:
They have a usual rating of 1 to 4. It consists of disposable filter made of layered fiberglass. Reinforcements are provided with grating metal that gives a lot of support to the fiber from collapsing. These will very inexpensive and also cannot clean the air to much extent. So, these are used for the protection of cooling and heating components. However,  they can capture airborne particles with their medium efficiency in cleaning the air.

Pleated media air filters:

With the efficiency rating of 5 – 13, it catches more particles than those of fiberglass. These are also made of disposable pleated polyester filters and the provision of pleats increase the surface area. Thus making it more efficient filters in capturing dust particles. This pleated air filter with a medium rating of efficiency is used for filtering small and even large particles. These are slightly more costly and with their effective cleaning, they make a better option to the Flat-panelled ones.

HEPA air filters:

With no doubt, these make the best air quality you get- given that these are recognized by HEPA. Even Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) considered this as the ultimate product to remove airborne particles and keep the home safe. They are so sensitive that they can remove the particles of minute thicknesses of 0.3 microns or larger. Their efficiency makes sure that they catch more than 99.9% of the particles in the home and make is fresh.

Washable air filters:

The only benefit with these air filters is that they are reusable. Though they have a rating of minute 1 – 4, they work for long period of time if properly maintained. They are made of strong plastic or sometimes even metal frames to ensure their safety. The polypropylene weaves stops all the pollutants. The mesh can be washed when removed and can be reused.

The place or store from where you are buying your replacement air filter should be the right one. It is not important to buy your filter from the place which installed your HVAC unit. It would be more affordable if you will purchase your air filter from dedicated or online specialty site. Even they have the enormous selection to choose from. Does the quality of air filter you’re  buying matter? It would be better if your buy best quality air filter instead of cheapest replacement filter. The best quality air filter can lead to better filtration and a filter that last longer. In simple words, the expensive air filter can actually save your future money. You need to replace your air filter on a regular basis so it can work properly. Don't forget to replace your air filter if you wait until you notice signs of a dirty air filter and later it might damage your entire system.

We have written about some replacement air filter misconceptions above. So, here you can find out the truth about some common misconceptions about a Home Replacement Furnace Air Filter.

Here is the proper list of misconceptions from which you can analyze that when you need to replace your Furnace Air filter or when not.
1. When the quality of Air filter is Good, Replacement is needed or not?
You always need to replace the air filter even if you are having the good quality air filter. It is needed because of efficiency and performance of air filter. Many people think that the quality of air filter is best and they don't need to replace it until when the allergies and asthma symptoms come up. It results you need to replace your air filter even if you are having the good quality of air filter.
2. Separate Indoor Air Filter Quality System, Replacement is needed or not?
Air filters clean every allergens and germ from the air at the particular place. But Initially, they also protect cooling and heating system. At last, it will have blocked airflow system which is moving from your HVAC System if the air filter is not changed regularly.
3. Powerful Filter, Replacement is needed or not?
Having a Power air filter is not a permanent solution for your air filter, you need to change the air filter every month. These type of filter usually used by homeowners to prevent themselves, children and their family members from different allergies and asthma symptoms.
