Landscape Pictures and its Styles
By the words, it suggests that- in Landscape
Pictures, scenic views of nature
dominates the image. Even if any living article is included in the image, it
shouldn’t any playing role in the picture. The main purpose of Landscape
Pictures is to make us remind of the places we visited and to recollect all the
details of the location. This gives a completely
new perspective in viewing the nature rather through eyes. Thus, the
photographer has to take a keen interest
in reliving the scenery in the picture. We’ll see how to make better Landscape
pictures.
Selecting Equipment:
While many consider
wide lenses for Landscape Photography, you can also use telephoto lenses for the
same. Using a tripod can help in stabilizing
the image. When you use Polarisers, they deepen the color of the sky and making
the picture unnatural. Neutral density filters can prevent this over-exposure
of the sky and makes the picture more natural.
Appropriate Time:
Nature won’t behave the
same at all hours of the day. There are
some golden hours when it unleashes itself. The perfect times will be in
pre-dawn of the sky and while the sun
sets down from the sky. These two time
periods of around one hour will make our landscape picture more realistic.
Right Camera Settings:
To get the control
of depth in shots, the aperture is either kept at priority AE or full manual
exposure. To get the sharpness of the image, the aperture is kept between f/8 and f/11. ISO settings should be kept
around 800. After all, it is the sharpness that guides the depth in a landscape
image.
Weather and the Sky:
Weather plays a major by
changing the mood from warm and relaxed feeling in Sunny Pictures to interest
in Cloudy Pictures. While experiencing bad weather, you can capture the moments
of twisting trees, dramatic clouds. Colour of the sky creates depth in
Landscape pictures.
Making use of Panorama:
Some scenes in
nature are too difficult to capture even with a wide lens camera. Shooting a
series of Pictures and stitching them together can make the photo that delivers
all the details. Overlapping of shots should be around 30% - 50% to make a
perfect Panorama. The only thing to take
is to adopt same camera settings in all
the pictures taken.
Styles of Landscape Pictures
There are three styles depending on the
characteristics of the picture.
Representational Landscapes:
This type of
Pictures show the nature as it is. Since these pictures don’t involve any
visual manipulation, the pictures should be taken in lighting and daytime. These are mere capturing of nature with the complete detailing of the
surroundings.
Impressionistic Landscapes:
In these
pictures, the photographer uses techniques to create an impression of the scene
which need not be realistic. By changing the speed of shutter to very low, the
movement of water droplets can be captured that cannot be perceived by naked
eyes.
Abstract Landscapes:
Abstract relates to
considering all the elements in a graphical way.
They leave an imaginary, unrecognizable
impression with the viewer after capturing it. This needs a lot of
compositional values and artistic skills by the photographer.
